If possibilities were a perfume

I love how Brene Brown speaks through all her sizzle. And by sizzle I refer to her ongoing transformation — which sounds redundant because a true transformation never ends, does it? If possibilities were a perfume I think she’s  gathered some key sexy ingredients. She speaks very clearly about this. Vulnerability? Thank you very much. I’ve never been comfortable with it, and often confused it with betrayal as well.

Before I get too deep, ahem, let’s just say, It’s okay to be you. She did the research. (By “you” I mean in the general sense.)

Physical education

I never had any intention of finding myself at the gym. I don’t really know how I get there. I just blink, and look around, and it’s hey! I’m on the treadmill. Or hey! I’m on the lat machine. Or hey! I got new earbuds! I mean, how did I even get there? The television absolutely HUMS now.

Then I’m home and it’s like I don’t even know the gym. I forget that I ever was there. I forget that I own a pair of sneakers. That my heels breathed fire over the worn wood floors. That I have a laundry pile of sweat-cooled gym clothes that keeps growing and growing, threatening to pay partial rent. The cool thing about living in hotels is they do the laundry for you. Yet I prefer to do my own laundry. I just don’t trust them.

The physical body learns in ways that we can never fully explain. The physical body will trick your mind – it’s jedi mindtricks because it’s usually good for you, especially if you tend towards overthinking – and then you look at your keychain and see a gym membership card that you’ve all but forgotten.

And your body has a reaction. “Oh yeah!” you say, as your face lights up in recognition. That’s the beauty of it. I’m saying let it happen. I believe the body is really in cahoots with an extraordinary higher power, and no, I’m not talking about the membership fees or peer pressure, not necessarily. The body is where the heart lives. It’s the only home address that matters in life. And suddenly, you’re at a crossroads. Either give in to all the mind jabber that can weigh you down, or let your body talk and walk you somewhere good. It’s a surprise….

And then it’s hey! I’m on the stairmaster. Etc.
Just don’t fall off!
