Rock show this Friday in Cabaretland

Having not lost my soul to Hollywood and forsaken singing for acting, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be among the featured singers at The Other Side Piano Bar in Silver Lake this Friday, Oct 21. Usually a landscape of mostly showtunes and cabaret classics, it will be a special night because, well, I’ll be there! I’ll be singing selections from the Great American Rock Songbook, staying true to my colors and letting my Tora-flag fly with the prodigiously talented James Lent on piano. I shall also mention The Other Side was recently endorsed by LA Weekly in their “2011 Best of LA” list. It’s deserving as a lovely place brimming with the friendliest crowd and drinks so generous you could almost call them pious.

The weekend ball drops at 9:30pm but it gets crowded early. See you there!!

Hollywood Stage Debut Tonight!

It’s premiere night! I’m in a show called the Jurors and it’s opening at the Tre Stage tonight. In it I play Bad Guy, otherwise known as Juror #3 (there are no character names in a Juror’s Room). If you’ve seen the classic film 12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb, well, that’s the character whose shoes I’m filling with my dainty lady-feet. Except I’m not dainty at all, not in this production. Lee J. Cobb gave an amazing performance in that role which is incredibly inspiring to me and puts me in no danger of trying to photocopy his performance, which was so perfect for that particular era, yet, we can all say, is timeless indeed.

The Tre Stage is an intimate venue with big action and a classic script. In LA? Then come on down for a fun night of post-empire entertainment!

THE JURORS

@ The Tre Stage Theater
1523 N. La Brea Ave. Suite 208 Hollywood CA 90028

8:00pm – June 14 at 9:30pm

TRUTH IS A FOUR-LETTER WORD and it’s Judgment Day for a man on trial in a Capital Murder case. As the ball is about to drop on a seemingly inevitable death sentence, the gloves come off as twelve citizens called in for jury duty face off in a powder keg where words ignite personal demons in the battle for justice. Enter the Boiler Room as teeth are bared, alliances are broken, and unlikely alliances are forged. The Jurors are in the bout of their lives, where it’s not just one person on trial. All of humanity is laid bare and highly flammable in this post-empire redux of the classic 12 Angry Men.

Performances every Tuesday through June 14th. Limited Run only. Seats are limited. Tickets $15

For ticket reservations, leave your name and number of guests at: (323) 850-7827

Please Note – Industry Professionals (Agents, Managers, Producers, Directors), free admission with business card.

Year of the Tiger (photos)

Didn’t know what the background image was until I saw the photos myself. All I can say is I had fun playing this brief set, and there was nothing political about it. Met a lot of lovely wonderful creative people that night. Thank you to Jay Li for the photos and keeping my camera safe even when things got a bit chaotic.

K, back to writing…..

Rehearsal @ Gibson Studios

U know I hit that. It sat hulking in the corner, like a big shiny lollipop. That big, red shiny Baldwin baby grand. Mommy, I want one!!! Now!!!!!!

Sitting in the Gibson rehearsal studio, in the former Hit Factory building of legend, I thought, “It’ll look fabulous in the living room of my beach house where everything else, all furnishings and such, shall be ultra-blankly-white. It’ll be the icing on the cake.” Yep, I’m always thinking and taking notes on taste, among other things of interest.

Rehearsal was fun with Dusty, Dan, Michael and Jenelle, as we did a run through of our songs for Thursday’s Lovers’ Concert. I’m excited to play these covers with such a lovely, talented bunch! It’ll be an all-out luscious evening of music, kisses and lollipops.

Year of the Tiger

I’m deadly fast. That’s what the front of my Tshirt tells me. In French, Swahili and Swedish. Trust me when I say it to be true. Rawrrr.

This next show comes from my friend Diana. She approached me to perform in this year’s Lunar New Year Festival, hosted by her rollicking network of sexy culture mavens at asianinnyc.com. Though the actual year turns resplendent Tiger on February 14th (yes, the same day as resplendent V-day), the event itself happens February 20th. I say any event that’s worthy of being deemed an event should stretch on for at least one week. This one lasts a full year. Wha?
